Notes:
(1) In 1961, the Town of Rocky Mount annexed portions of Franklin County.  In 1999-2000, the Town of Rocky Mount annexed less than 600 persons from Franklin County.
(2) In 1960 and 1965, the City of Martinsville annexed less than 250 persons from Henry County each year.
(3) In 1951, the City of Danville annexed over 5,000 persons from Pittsylvania County.  In 1956, 1957, 1963, 1970, 1972, 1973, and 1977, the City of Danville annexed
      less than 250 persons from Pittsylvania County each year.  In 1987-88, the City of Danville annexed approximately 10,663 persons from Pittsylvania County.
(4) The Town of Hurt was incorporated in 1967.
(5) In 2007, the Town of Stuart annexed 568 persons from Patrick County.
(6) Beginning in 2007, the U.S. Census Bureau incorporated state population estimates from the Weldon Cooper Center for Public Service .
